SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The state government will offer moral and counselling support to the family of the late Syamsul Haris, a Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Reserve Officer Training Unit (UTM Palapes) student, who died aged 22 during training.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said this is important for the family as Syamsul’s body is being exhumed for further investigation.
“We visited the family with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and deputy (women, family and community development) minister to offer support from a psychological aspect.
“After the body is exhumed and a second post-mortem is done, we will offer more support to ensure the family’s well-being,” she told Media Selangor.
Yesterday, the Shah Alam High Court ordered that Syamsul’s grave at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Burial Grounds in Semenyih be exhumed to allow a second post-mortem within 14 days.
The computer science major died on July 28 at Kota Tinggi Hospital in Johor while training at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Ulu Tiram.
On August 15, while visiting Syamsul’s family, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari expressed hope that a comprehensive investigation would be done, and stressed that the state government will give its full cooperation to ensure justice is upheld.
