Lorry driver, child hurt by fallen trees in separate incidents

SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — A lorry driver and a nine-year-old boy were injured in separate incidents involving fallen trees following heavy rain and strong winds that hit several areas in Selangor last night.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, said the first incident at Jalan Paip, Klang, resulted in the boy being injured in the leg and requiring three stitches.

He said the department was notified of the incident at 10.43 pm, before a team from the Kapar Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location eight minutes later.

"The boy was in a car with his 37-year-old mother at the wheel when a tree fell and hit the car. Only the boy was injured in the incident, " he said in a statement today.

As for the lorry driver, aged 35, Ahmad Mukhlis said he suffered minor injuries after the lorry he was driving on Jalan Kapar-Kuala Selangor was hit by a fallen tree.

He said when the rescue team arrived at the location at 11.04 pm, they found that the man was trapped in the lorry.

The victim was removed from the lorry with the help of personnel from the Kuala Selangor fire and handed over to health workers for further action," he said.
