UIS sets record for largest participation in National Day celebration

SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) made history by recording a new entry in the Malaysia Book of Records through the largest campus community participation in conjunction with the National Day 2025 celebration.

Its Corporate Communications Department said the programme brought together 1,675 UIS members, including students, lecturers and administrative staff, at Dewan Sultan Idris Shah yesterday.

“Participants showcased their creative expressions through short writings on the meaning of independence before forming a parade inspired by the Jalur Gemilang, symbolising the unity of Malaysia’s diverse society,” the statement said.

Among the activities featured were a Merdeka parade involving various ethnic groups and local communities accompanied by a marching band and a salute, an opening ceremony with a drone show, poetry recitation, and silat performance.

In addition, there were colouring contests, poetry competitions, quizzes, leisure activities such as fishing and kayaking with an independence theme, as well as a cultural night featuring performances by various ethnic groups.

According to the statement, this was the university’s second achievement of its kind, following the first on August 3, 2007, when it was known as Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS).
