SUBANG JAYA, Aug 21 — The Selangor Youth Community (SAY), under the patronage of Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, today celebrated five award recipients from Team Programme Malaysia, which empowers at-risk youth through personal and professional development.

Team Award Day 2025, held in partnership with King’s Trust International (KTI), honoured exceptional young people and steadfast partners who have played a pivotal role in transforming lives.

During the award ceremony, Tengku Amir presented the award to Nurul Naqibah Mohd Kamal, an alumna of Team Programme Malaysia Cohort 16, who was named King’s Trust International Regional Sustainability Award for Asia 2024 winner.

Naqibah was recognised for her unwavering commitment to volunteerism and community development, especially her meaningful work with indigenous people.

Other award recipients were Sunway Group (Most Supportive Corporate Partner), National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) (Most Supportive Government Agency), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) (Most Supportive Municipal Partner), and Syafie Husnul Yakin (Perseverance Award).

Also present during the ceremony were Selangor Princess Tengku Zatashah and state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.

Tengku Zatashah presented the award to Syafie, who was honoured for his determination in overcoming adversity.

Team Programme Malaysia is a nine-week initiative that equips youth with communication skills, confidence, and experience in community-based teamwork to help them set goals and explore pathways in education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Team Award Day 2025 highlighted the collective effort of government agencies, corporations, and civil society in building inclusive, resilient youth in Malaysia.

Naqibah told Media Selangor about her volunteer work with the indigenous community, saying her inspiration came from seeing how limited their opportunities were compared with urban communities.

“I want them to have what those in urban areas can access, especially education,” she said.

The 30-year-old from Selangor said the programme helped her grow from an introvert to someone more confident and able to communicate effectively.

Naqibah, who is also a human resources executive, said she sometimes has to travel up to two and half hours to reach the community, but is determined to bridge the gap despite the distance.

Among the challenges she faced was the need to build trust with indigenous communities, who were initially wary of outsiders.

Meanwhile, Syafie, 22, underwent four months of treatment and rehabilitation at the AADK centre in Sungai Besi, and was introduced to the programme with a focus on confidence-building, teamwork and personal development.

“I underwent four months of rehabilitation at the AADK centre in Sungai Besi. At the time, I never expected to join Team Programme as it was introduced as part of the centre’s activities, but over time, the programme really helped me stay motivated,” he said.

Through the programme, Syafie said he gained the confidence to rebuild his life and has been running his own barber business over the past year.

Under Team Programme Malaysia, youth are empowered to pursue education, employment, or entrepreneurial opportunities with renewed drive and purpose.
