KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — The National Unity Ministry plans to look into a new and more sustainable financing model, namely, the establishment of Khazanah Warisan Wakaf Fund.
Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, said it would be a special trust fund to support conservation initiatives, exhibitions, research, as well as the expansion of the country’s arts and heritage.
“Through Dana Khazanah Warisan, the corporate sector, interested bodies and the general public can channel contributions in the form of financial or material support,” he said when officiating the Chagee Malaysia and Museums Department campaign launch at the National Museum here today.
He cited the Australian Museum in Sydney, which raised over A$9 million (RM24.4 million) with cost-sharing between Westpac Bank, the New South Wales Government, and major donors.
He added that such a partnership model proves government and corporate collaboration could significantly impact the sustainability of heritage institutions.
“The Khazanah Warisan Fund in Malaysia can be a strategic platform that connects the government, corporate sector and the community in preserving and enhancing the country’s arts and heritage on the world stage,” Aaron said.
