SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — The state government has never approved expanded operations at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS) in Subang, as residents’ safety and well-being has always been a priority.

Seri Setia assemblyman and state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said this is in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement in the 13th Malaysian Plan (13MP), which emphasises that any expansion in operations at the LTSAAS must be moved to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

“(The state government) has never given additional approval at the (LTSAAS). Residents need not worry,” he told Media Selangor.

Following complaints over LTSAAS operations after working hours and low-flying helicopters, Fahmi said his and the Subang MP’s office will bring up the matter to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

He said maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operators are not allowed to operate beyond regular hours, while noise issues must be reported to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) for immediate action.

“We hope the MBSA can enforce the rule against operating beyond regular hours, which are between 9am and 6pm.

“The CAAM meanwhile has the powers and mechanism to check whether helicopters are flying at appropriate altitudes,” Fahmi said.

Previously, it was reported that Subang residents had complained about traffic congestion, flights beyond working hours, and low-flying choppers, which were affecting safety and order in the area.
