SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Over 200 childcare centres, or taska, in Selangor are now operating legally as of December last year, thanks to the state government’s Care Centre Grant (GPJ).

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said this achievement shows that the state’s efforts to empower childcare services are bearing fruit.

Besides the GPJ, the Selangor Special Committee for Care Service Improvements was set up to reassess rules and standards by updating guidelines so they are more relevant and practical.

“We also issued reminders and took enforcement action against childcare centres that failed to abide by the rules, to ensure children’s safety and well-being,” she said at the Taska Services Advocacy Programme closing ceremony and Selangor Taska Day celebration at Dewan Jubli Perak here today.

Anfaal said the activation of one-stop centres has also expedited registrations as childcare centre operators are guided to fulfilling all conditions for whitelisting.

She said the easier, more efficient registration system is one of the reasons Selangor has seen a clear increase in registered childcare centres in the past two years.

She emphasised that the childcare industry isn’t just an economic sector, but an essential need to comprehensively support the people’s well-being.
