IGP awarded Singapore’s Meritorious Service Medal

SINGAPORE, Aug 19 — Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has been conferred Singapore’s Meritorious Service Medal (Pingat Jasa Gemilang) for his significant contributions to the security of Malaysia, Singapore, and the region.

Singapore’s Internal Security Department (ISD) stated that the award recognises his instrumental role in enhancing the strong professional ties and cooperation between the Malaysian Special Branch (MSB) and the ISD during his tenure as MSB director.

The medal was presented to him by Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam at an Investiture Ceremony held at Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday.

“Under his leadership, MSB and ISD maintained substantive bilateral engagements, intelligence exchanges and extensive cooperation in areas of mutual security interest, particularly in the domain of counter-terrorism,” ISD said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Shanmugam said the enduring warm rapport between the MSB and ISD is a testament to Khalid’s commitment to working closely with Singapore in areas of mutual security concern.

“I thanked Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khalid for his astute leadership. It is through the hard work and tireless efforts of generations of MSB and ISD officers that Singapore, Malaysia and the region have been kept safe,” he posted on Facebook.

He added that the close collaboration between the two services had helped disrupt the activities of pro-Daesh elements and other terror-linked entities in the region.

Khalid was appointed Director of the Special Branch on April 10, 2023, leading the MSB for more than two years before assuming the position of Inspector-General of Police on June 23, 2025.
