Selangor Intelligent Parking: State mulls using super app

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — The Selangor government is looking into the use of a super app to coordinate the activation of Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP), said state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah.

He said the state Digital Infrastructure Committee is awaiting suggestions from the market so the implementation of smart parking throughout the state runs smoothly.

“What is certain is that when this parking operation is taken over by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB), we expect more infrastructure such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be installed in parking lots in Selangor as that will tighten enforcement.

“This is because our collection level for parking areas throughout Selangor is only 50 per cent and the rest cannot be collected because people usually won’t pay if there is no enforcement, so we need a more neat, uniform and organised enforcement method,” he said when met after the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award presentation ceremony here today.

Fahmi said the state government has no plans yet to increase parking fees, emphasising that the SIP implementation focuses on strengthening enforcement.

He said the estimated annual collection from parking lots throughout Selangor reaches about RM100 million a year, and with a more efficient collection system, it could reach up to RM200 million.

“With the increase, it will be able to be put into improving infrastructure and managing existing parking spaces,” Fahmi said.
