IRB extends aid to ease burden of Putra Heights blast victims

SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — The Inland Revenue Board (IRB), through its Hasil Prihatin Mission Team, has contributed RM20,500 to victims affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights on April 1.

The funds were raised from personal contributions by IRB officers and staff nationwide, aimed at easing the burden of those impacted.

The handover ceremony was officiated by IRB deputy chief executive officer (Tax Operations) Shaharrudy Othman, who presented the contribution to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building today.

Shaharrudy said the initiative was intended to provide relief to residents whose homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods were severely damaged by the incident.

“This collection from IRB staff nationwide amounts to RM20,500. It is entirely from their personal contributions.

“We care about what has happened to Malaysians, and on that basis, we carried out the collection and delivered the aid,” he told Media Selangor today.

The massive fire, which broke out at 8.10am on April 1, left a significant impact, creating a crater 32 feet deep and measuring about 70 by 80 feet.

The blaze generated intense heat that destroyed rows of homes and property, including vehicles, within a 500m radius of the site.
