Amirudin urges shopkeepers to fly the Jalur Gemilang

KLANG, Aug 13 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari today urged shopkeepers to fly the Jalur Gemilang at their stores, and not view the act as burdensome.

He said local councils’ orders for residents to fly the flag is meant to instil patriotic spirit.

“Orders by local councils to fly the flag were part of a campaign to love Malaysia. This call should be shouldered together, not seen as burdensome, as this is the kind of patriotic culture seen in developed countries.

“Though there are no clear rules mandating that one displays the flag, there could be smaller laws or clauses to encourage shopkeepers to hang the Jalur Gemilang,” Amirudin said after an aid handover ceremony for Selangor schools.

At the ceremony, he presented RM26.62 million in assistance to 873 schools statewide.

He also reminded people not to leave worn-out Jalur Gemilang up at their stores or homes.

“If you can, replace or change your worn flags, that sacrifice is a sign of loving the country. Spending a bit, that’s a small price for a flag,” Amirudin said.
