BANGSAR Aug 9 — Customers under Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd are advised to optimise their water usage in light of the tariff adjustment taking effect on September 1.
Sinar Harian quoted its chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali as saying that consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya are also encouraged to regularly check household water pipes for leaks that could cause water bills to spike.
He said that consumer behaviour plays a crucial role in efforts to conserve water usage at home.
The initiative is part of Air Selangor’s ongoing commitment to delivering the message on the importance of prudent water usage.
“Sometimes, it is not that we use too much water. Imagine four people in one household consuming up to one cubic metre (1,000 litres) of water a day — impossible!
“It turns out the house pipes are leaking. That is what drives the monthly bill up, but some consumers just pay it because they think repairing the pipes would cost more.
“If they took long-term planning into account and saved money by fixing the pipes first, it is very possible that their Air Selangor bill could be lower than usual,” he said during a closed press conference with three media agencies at Air Selangor’s headquarters on Thursday (August 7).
Previously, it was reported that domestic users in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya consuming between 20 and 35 m³ of water per month will be charged the new rate of RM1.62 per m³.
