AKPS refutes deepfake video targeting director-general

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 6 — The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has strongly denied the contents of a viral TikTok video allegedly featuring its Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, describing it as fake, malicious, and generated using artificial intelligence (AI) or deepfake technology.

It said the video, uploaded by the account ‘hermano.kedutaan’, was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of its leadership.

“The video’s creation and circulation are a calculated effort to damage the image, reputation and integrity of the Director-General. It is clearly intended to deceive and manipulate public perception,” AKPS said in a statement today.

It cautioned the public not to fall for or share such content, noting that the distribution of false materials is an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“While the advancement of AI is welcomed, its unethical misuse to defame and degrade individuals is completely unacceptable,” AKPS said.

The agency views the matter seriously and warns that legal action will be taken against any individual or party involved in producing or spreading the fake video.
