SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — All Chief Ministers and Menteris Besar have been urged to allocate adequate funding through their respective state budgets for youth and sports development next year.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said this step is crucial in supporting state executive council members holding the relevant portfolios to implement more development programmes under their jurisdiction.

“I would like to call on all Chief Ministers and Menteris Besar in the coming weeks, as they prepare to table next year’s state budgets, to allocate sufficient funds to support their sports and youth state executive councillors.

“This is not a minor portfolio — it is about safeguarding future assets and promoting healthy lifestyles. If they receive adequate budgets, they can implement impactful development programmes, but they often fall short,” she said.

Yeoh was speaking at a press conference after chairing the Malaysia Games' 2026 Supreme Committee Meeting at the Courtyard Marriott Setia Alam Hotel earlier today.

Meanwhile, the Youth and Sports Ministry's Corporate Communications Unit announced that as of yesterday, the Registrar of Youth Societies (ROY) has recorded that 54 per cent, or 53,513 office bearers in youth organisations, are aged 30 years and below.

“To date, 927 youth organisations have amended their constitutions in line with the Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019 (A1602), reflecting confidence in youths under 30 to lead associations.

“The enforcement of this act is expected to have a direct impact on a total of 8,233 registered youth organisations under the ROY office,” it said in a statement.
