KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Malaysia are assured of a place in the men’s doubles final at the Macau Open, with Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King to face Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri in the semi-finals tomorrow.
In today’s quarter-finals at the Macau East Asian Games Dome, Wan Arif-Roy King produced a solid performance to down compatriots Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong 21-12, 21-16.
But it was Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal who stole the show with a stunning 21-14, 13-21, 22-20 win over second-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India.
In mixed doubles, two national pairs — Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing — also advanced to the semi-finals.
Top seeds Tang Jie-Ee Wei downed Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana-Indah Cahya Sari Jamil 21-17, 22-20 to set up a last-four clash against Danes Mathias Christiasen-Alexandra Boje.
Jimmy-Pei Jing, meanwhile, outlasted China’s Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi 21-12, 17-21, 21-18 to set up a semi-final showdown against Indonesia’s Amri Syahnawi-Nita Violina Marwah tomorrow.
In the men’s singles, Malaysia’s Justin Hoh disposed of Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-9, 21-18 and will meet India’s Tharun Mannepalli for a place in the final.
