SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 — The opening ceremony of the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2026 in Selangor, to be held at the Sepang International Circuit next year, will feature elements of artificial intelligence.
Sukma XXII Selangor 2026 Secretariat chief operations officer R. Venu said the technology has its pros and cons, but it is inevitable.
“The first element we are trying to apply is cost savings and the second is ensuring the programme is high impact.
“Looking at our planning, AI elements could be used for the opening ceremony,” she said during an exclusive interview with SelangorFM.
She said AI will also be used during the Sukma logo, mascot and theme launch at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Seksyen 7, on August 15, to kick off the year-long countdown to the event.
“There is an AI element as the ‘countdown’ to evoke the Sukma spirit,” Venu said.
She added that logistical aspects will be given special attention for a more streamlined event, to ensure the involvement of all districts, local councils, and government agencies.
Meanwhile, Venu said the secretariat will “ask for help from the Selangor Youth Community (SAY), Selangor Volunteer (SERVE), and the community for this iteration of the Sukma”.
On July 22, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Sukma Selangor will be held August 15 to 24, 2026, while the Para Sukma will be held September 5 to 14.
Amirudin said Sukma 2026 will involve sports facilities and 12 local councils across nine districts, except for the track cycling event, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
