KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — The government has set a target of delivering one million affordable homes by 2035 under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this will be done through a nationwide housing initiative involving Federal, state, and private sector collaboration.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the programme will run from 2026 to 2035 and aims to provide safe and accessible housing for low and middle-income citizens.

“The plan will be implemented through a variety of programmes, including Residensi Madani, the Public Servants’ Housing Scheme, the New Home Construction Assistance Programme, the Affordable Housing Programme, and Rumah Bakat Madani,” he said when tabling the 13MP in the Dewan Rakyat today.

To expand homeownership, the Credit Guarantee Housing Scheme (SJKP) and the Rent-to-Own option will also be strengthened to serve more prospective buyers.

Anwar added that new technologies like the Industrialised Building System and Building Integrated Management will be adopted to speed up delivery and cut costs, particularly for public housing projects.

He also cited Kota Madani in Putrajaya, a government collaboration with Putrajaya Holdings, as a model for future housing developments based on the concept of Umran Hadhari, which promotes integrated, ethical, and community-driven urban living.
