Kita Selangor Rail alignment enters crucial phase, investment partnerships explored

SHAH ALAM, July 30 — The Kita Selangor Rail alignment project has entered a crucial phase, focusing on developing financing strategies and identifying investment partners to ensure its implementation is sustainable and delivers maximum benefits to the public.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that discussions are underway with the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) and appointed consultant HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd to explore potential collaborations in a long-term plan aimed at strengthening Selangor’s public transport network.

“This rail system is designed to connect key areas across the state with a modern, user-friendly network, including a direct link to the Selangor Aero Park, envisioned as a future aviation and logistics hub.

“The development is expected to ease traffic congestion through enhanced public transportation and stimulate economic growth by improving workforce mobility and attracting investments. It will also serve as a vital foundation for planning and implementing the next technical phases,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin emphasised the state government's commitment to strengthening an integrated and inclusive public transport ecosystem that covers urban, suburban, and rural areas so that its benefits can be felt comprehensively.

“Selangor continues to focus on developing a public transport system that is not only integrated but also capable of reaching suburban and rural areas to ensure equitable benefits for all,” he said.

“Thank you to all parties who have contributed their views and expertise. This marks the first step towards a more sustainable rail system for a progressive, prosperous, and liveable future Selangor,” he said.

The construction of the Kita Selangor Rail alignment is expected to span up to 10 years, to be carried out in stages involving multiple phases.

When tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget, the Menteri Besar announced that the development of the alignment would begin with a feasibility study, funded with a RM3 million allocation.

In February this year, state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the study had identified a proposed 200km rail alignment, with four suggested supporting lines located in West Port, Klang, Putra Heights, and Universiti Selangor's Bestari Jaya campus.
