SEPANG, July 29 — The state government is coordinating efforts with the local authorities and relevant agencies to expedite the implementation of flood mitigation projects, particularly in high-risk areas.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the focus would be on identifying solutions through concrete plans to resolve all issues delaying the construction of mitigation projects.
“I will be visiting all local authorities based on the location of critical flood-prone areas, beginning with Klang, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, and Kuala Selangor, followed by the remaining eight local authorities.
“Site visits to critical areas revealed that road conditions, drainage systems, and utilities have become obstacles to smooth project implementation, requiring immediate additional allocations.
“These issues have been brought to the Selangor State Executive Council meeting, which has approved the necessary funds for urgent measures to address flooding,” he said.
He was speaking to the press after officiating the Semenyih Water Pump Station Package D project's handover ceremony, under the Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) in Jenderam Hilir earlier today.
Izham added that the state government has allocated up to RM600 million to implement over 50 flood mitigation projects currently being actively carried out in areas like Sijangkang, Kuala Selangor, Petaling, and Sepang.
“Meanwhile, the Federal government has spent RM3.5 billion on large-scale mitigation projects.
“The current focus is on the Phase Two construction in Langat-Kajang, with funding of up to RM600 million, and an application has been submitted for Phase Two in Sungai Buloh involving a RM850 million allocation,” he said.
