KLANG, July 29 — Only three of the four local authorities that were scheduled to implement the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system on August 1 will proceed as planned, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

They include the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), and the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).

Meanwhile, the implementation for the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has been postponed to a future date, pending further discussions.

"As of now, three local councils have accepted and will implement the system as scheduled," he told the press after the Selangor 2024 Agricultural Census Interim Report launch today.

Previously, Amirudin had said that the state government would continue discussions pertaining to the SIP implementation in several local authorities to enhance efficiency and increase parking revenue.

It was also reported that an agreement would be formalised between the affected local councils, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) subsidiary Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, and the appointed concessionaire for the system implementation.

Under the agreement, the local authorities will retain full authority over enforcement, while Rantaian Mesra will act as the system coordinator, and the concessionaire will handle day-to-day parking operations.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato' Ng Suee Lim had also previously said that the local authorities may experience a slight decline in parking revenue during the early phases of the SIP, but expects collections to significantly improve in the long run.
