Anwar urges public to judge govt on facts, not political sentiment

PUTRAJAYA, July 27 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the public to assess the government’s efforts and policies based on facts rather than political sentiment.

He said that although the government has implemented various initiatives, there are still parties spreading inaccurate information, like claims of rising fuel and commodity prices, when in reality, the opposite is true.

“This is a free and democratic country, but we must provide clarification. During interviews (at the gathering in Dataran Merdeka), some claimed fuel prices had gone up, when in fact they had gone down. There are many (such false claims).

“This reflects political sentiment and hatred, not facts. Therefore, we suggest that the people make judgments based on facts.

"If there are shortcomings, we are open to improvement,” he told the press after attending the Organisational Strengthening Seminar and the Parti Keadilan Rakyat president’s tour of the Federal Territories today.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, acknowledged that while not every government initiative is perfect, efforts are continually being made to resolve issues.

“…I am not saying what we have done is perfect, but we constantly listen and make adjustments where needed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said he is open to the Opposition tabling a vote of no confidence against his leadership in the Dewan Rakyat.

The Keadilan president cum Pakatan Harapan chairman said such a move is part of a legitimate democratic process.

“We are open to it. This is the correct process. If they want to table it (a vote of no confidence), go ahead. He (Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin) has been saying that for three years now,” Anwar said.

He was responding to comments made by Hamzah during a gathering at Dataran Merdeka yesterday, where the latter claimed the Opposition is currently considering submitting the motion to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul soon.

Earlier, Anwar arrived at the closed-door event at 12.30pm, where he delivered his presidential address and engaged with Keadilan members in attendance.
