SIBU, July 26 — The National Unity Ministry has submitted 21 initiatives to the Economy Ministry for consideration under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which is scheduled to be tabled next week.
National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang said the proposals focused, among others, on the Pembinaan Negara Bangsa initiative, in line with the ministry’s goal of strengthening national unity in a sustainable manner.
“Nation-building is crucial for Malaysia as a multi-racial and multi-cultural country. It must be formulated comprehensively so that the unity we build will be long-lasting,” he said.
The text of his speech was read by Deputy Minister of National Unity Senator Saraswathy Kandasami during the opening of the Sarawak-level Unity Week (SMP) 2025 celebration at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang today.
Also present were National Unity Ministry secretary-general Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid, Ngemah state assemblyman Anyi Jana, and Sarawak Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) director Diwarna Azool.
Aaron added that his ministry was currently formulating a comprehensive framework aimed at building a nation-state as the ultimate goal of national unity, with emphasis also placed on fostering a national identity among all Malaysians.
The SMP 2025 celebration, from July 25 to July 27, featured various programmes and activities centred around the theme of unity, including traditional sports and games, aerobics, a bertandak or nopeng competition, patriotic film screenings, and exhibitions by government departments and agencies.
Sarawak JPNIN organised the programme as a continuation of the national-level celebration.
Various other activities, including cultural exhibitions, interracial dialogues, youth programmes, and artistic performances, were also held to strengthen unity and harmony among Sarawak’s multi-racial community.
