KLANG, July 25 — Pandamaran assemblyman Leong Tuck Chee has urged three urgent moves to prevent a recurrence of mud floods in the Taman Petaling Indah residential area.

The incident is believed to have been due to construction works for a catchment pool in Lipat Kajang.

The three moves agreed upon by the Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd and project contractors are:

  1. Upgrading the drainage system at the construction site

    2. Building a temporary catchment pool

    3. The construction of barriers to prevent mudflow into residential areas

The directive was issued after Leong’s visit to the site yesterday, following complaints from affected residents. It was understood that around 500 homes in Taman Petaling Indah were affected in the most recent incident in June, after a similar one in December.

Leong said the construction of the catchment pool is part of the Rasau Water Supply Plan and is set to be completed by March 2027. The basic structure of the pool is scheduled to be done by this October.

“This project is important to ensure the water supply in Klang remains stable, but the safety and well-being of residents is still a priority,” Leong added.

He also said Taman Petaling Indah will host a new catchment pool, set to be built by December, as a long-term measure to lower the risk of flash floods.

He reminded contractors to clean the temporary catchment pool as soon as possible after rain to prevent a recurrence of the mud floods.

Leong said that when the project is complete, treated water from the plant in Puchong will be channelled to the Lipat Kajang catchment pool before distribution in Klang.

The step is important to strengthen the water supply system and as a support plan in case of disruptions in the future.
