SHAH ALAM, July 22 — The Klang Royal City Tourism Action Plan 2035 is aimed at elevating the district as an international-standard tourism destination that is competitive, sustainable, and inclusive.

Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said the short- and long-term action plan covers the period from 2025 to 2035, and not only encompasses physical plans but also emphasises strategic tourism management, infrastructure, public facilities, economic impacts, and the maintenance of Klang’s heritage value.

He said the strategy includes plans to upgrade the competitiveness of Klang’s tourism hotspots, towards sustainable and inclusive development by 2035, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“The tourism categories in focus include heritage and culture, shopping, ecotourism, agrotourism/agriculture, sports and recreation, industrial, maritime, and gastronomy.

“With strategies for the short and long terms, it will transform the image of the Royal City of Klang, raising property values and increasing economic and investment opportunities in the district’s tourism sector,” he said.

Hamid was speaking after officiating a focus group discussion for the proposed Klang Royal City Tourism Action Plan 2035 at the Klang Royal City Council today.

He said the discussion gathered involved agencies, stakeholders, and tourism operators, products and hotels under one roof, to offer their views on the action plan and upgrades to Klang’s tourism areas.

“With reference to the Klang Royal City Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 1), the tourism sector is among important service sectors as Klang houses royal heritage and historic attractions that can be tourist offerings.

“There were several issues that were identified, such as location problems, … basic and support facilities, the city’s image, cleanliness, building beautification and conservation, and other issues in the tourism sector.

“The purpose of the tourism action plan is in line with the transformation of tourism areas, to sustain Klang as a competitive, resilient, sustainable and inclusive international tourism destination,” Hamid said.
