SHAH ALAM, July 19 — The capacity of seven main dams in Selangor has now reached 90 per cent and is sufficient to meet raw water needs in the event of a drought or the southwest monsoon.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the water levels in all dams are currently stable and are expected to last between three and six months without rainfall.
"InsyaAllah, the water levels in all seven main dams remain stable and can sustain for three to six months in the absence of rain," he told Media Selangor.

Izham added that 115 ponds under the Selangor Off River Storage Scheme (SORSS) have been activated to help cope with the hot season or the southwest monsoon.
The ponds are expected to support the supply of alternative water sources and bolster current capacity for up to four months.
"Therefore, the public need not worry as the capacity of the dams and ponds remains at a good level even if a drought occurs," he said.
In May, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari expressed confidence that the Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) could provide up to 99 per cent effectiveness in addressing issues related to water pollution and drought in the state.
SJAM comprises several key components including:
- The construction of the Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System 600 pump station (Package A)
- A pump station in Rantau Panjang (Package B)
- A diversion of Sungai Selangor (Package C)
- A pond pump station in Semenyih
Recently, the Malaysian Meteorological Department's director-general Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the southwest monsoon, which began on May 10, is expected to persist until mid-September.
The seven main dams in Selangor are:
- Sungai Selangor Dam (Hulu Selangor)
- Sungai Tinggi Dam (Hulu Selangor)
- Tasik Subang Dam (Petaling)
- Sungai Langat Dam (Hulu Langat)
- Semenyih Dam (Hulu Langat)
- Klang Gates Dam (Gombak)
- Batu Dam (Gombak)
