GELANG PATAH, July 10 — A Royal Malaysia Police helicopter crashed this morning during an honour flypast during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise near Sungai Pulai here in Johor.

The incident occurred in waters near the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) jetty here, the venue of the exercise involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed the crash involved an AS355N helicopter with the registration number 9M-PHG.

CAAM said the chopper had departed the Tanjung Kupang police station at 9.51am with five people on board, including the pilot.

A Bernama journalist who was at the scene to cover the programme witnessed the incident firsthand.

All five onboard were rescued by marine police and transported to the MMEA jetty.

The CAAM said the victims were sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru for treatment.

“Investigations will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry in accordance with Part XXVI Civil Aviation Regulations 2016,” the statement said.
