KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd last year recorded RM2.98 billion in revenue, up 5.44 per cent from 2023.

Air Selangor chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali said the firm had allocated RM690 million for capital expenditure, with nearly 70 per cent used to lower the non-revenue water (NRW) rate.

Adam Saffian said the remaining 30 per cent was used to improve operational efficiency and realise Air Selangor’s goal to become Asia’s premier water services provider by 2030.

“Last year, there was a decrease of 13.9 per cent in capital expenditure from RM800 million the previous year.

“Air Selangor will continue investing in water supply management and administration to the benefit of 9.62 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya,” he said when presenting Air Selangor’s 2024 sustainability report today.

Adam Saffian said Air Selangor achieved a rate of 27 per cent NRW last year, which translates to savings of nearly 300 million litres a day, the optimisation of operational costs, and the efficient use of water sources.

“In the same period, water reserve margins rose to 18.6 per cent from 15.34 per cent in 2023.

“This increase is thanks to comprehensive monitoring at dams and water treatment plants to ensure water supply stability,” he said.

In November 2023, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Air Selangor will generate a projected RM200 million in its own profit by 2029.

Amirudin said that by 2029, he expects the free water programme to resume.

In 2019, the Selangor government launched Skim Air Darul Ehsan to provide 20 cubic metres of free water to targeted groups in the state.

The scheme targets households earning RM5,000 or below monthly, with the benefit enjoyed by over four million consumers.
