MOHE says will help Malaysian students in Iran enrol in local unis

KUANTAN, June 22 — The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) will help Malaysian students in Iran gain placements at local institutions should they choose to return home, said minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

He said the ministry will enrol them in local higher learning institutions according to their existing academic programmes.

“They are Malaysians, and in situations like this, it is our duty to extend assistance to those in need,” he told reporters after opening the Paya Besar Umno delegates meeting at Awangan Palace here today.

Asked about reports about four Malaysian students in Iran who are unwilling to return, he said while offers of help have been extended, no action can be taken if students choose to stay.

“We cannot do anything if they do not wish to come back. However, if they change their minds, we are ready to help,” he said.

Zambry said MOHE works closely with the Foreign Ministry to safeguard the welfare of Malaysians abroad, especially during crises.

It was reported on Friday that the Foreign Ministry was finalising efforts to repatriate Malaysians and their families from Iran amid the Iran-Israel conflict.
