SHAH ALAM, June 12 — Selangor is aiming to strengthen its collaboration with Chinese aircraft manufacturer, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), as part of efforts to position the state as a regional aerospace hub.
Speaking at Airexpo Shanghai 2025, state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said Selangor is in talks with Comac on setting up a service centre in the state to cater to the Asia-Pacific market.
“We are hoping to be part of the Comac supply chain and to bring more value to the local aero manufacturers,” he said in a video shared with the media today.
Ng, who is leading Selangor’s aerospace investment mission to China alongside Invest Selangor Bhd and the National Aerospace Industry Corporation, said the Malaysia delegation had visited Comac’s aircraft assembly facilities and was impressed by its automation capabilities and efficiency.
“From end to end, it takes only seven days for Comac to produce an aircraft. This is very impressive.”
He added that with passenger traffic in Asia growing at 7 per cent, nearly double the global average of 4 per cent, it is clear the region is becoming a key engine for the aviation industry.
Ng said this is why it is crucial for Selangor to firmly establish itself within this fast-growing ecosystem.
“The Asia-Pacific will be an important region for the aviation market in the coming years,” he said.
Ng also emphasised on Selangor’s existing strengths in the aerospace sector, with 70 per cent of Malaysia’s RM18 billion aerospace revenue last year coming from the state.
“Selangor has about 160 aerospace companies spanning MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), aero manufacturing, design and systems.
“We believe we have the capability and competency to offer a complete supply chain for aircraft manufacturing, including Comac,” Ng said.
Airexpo Shanghai, or the Shanghai International Aerospace Technology and Equipment Exhibition, is being held at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre.
The premier annual international aerospace trade exhibition, which started yesterday and ends tomorrow, showcases the latest in aircraft manufacturing, MRO, airport infrastructure, unmanned aerial vehicles, and aerospace technology.
