SHAH ALAM, June 4 — The state government will carry out a comprehensive mid-term performance review of its political appointees beginning this month, aimed at strengthening public service delivery and ensuring greater accountability.

The Menteri Besar's political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said the evaluation will involve 28 Parliament and state constituency service centre coordinators, 373 Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairpersons, 84 New Village heads, 62 Indian community leaders, and 288 local government councillors.

It will evaluate multiple aspects, including the effectiveness of government initiatives in implementation and the level of engagement of appointees with their respective communities.

Feedback will also be obtained from relevant government agencies and the public.

"The findings from this review will determine whether their contracts will be renewed for the next term.

"This also ensures that political appointments are based on performance, not solely on current political alignment,” he said in a statement today.

Saifuddin added that the findings will serve as a reference for future appointments, particularly following the 2025 Parti Keadilan Rakyat elections, which saw several changes at the divisional leadership level.

To ensure transparency, a special meeting will be held with key stakeholders to set clear guidelines for the evaluation process.

With this initiative, he hopes that high-performing appointees will not be dismissed simply for lacking political positions, while underperforming individuals will no longer be retained solely because they hold said positions.

“This effort is to ensure that Selangor’s initiatives truly benefit all segments of society, and that political appointees communicate information clearly and responsibly,” Saifuddin said.
