SHAH ALAM, May 30 — Tourism Selangor today marked another achievement in its global marketing strategy, with the launch of a promotional video in Mandarin for Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025.

The video, held during the ITB China 2025 travel trade show at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre, was launched by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and officiated by state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

In a statement today, Tourism Selangor said the video launch reflects Selangor’s efforts to boost its market presence in China, adding that the state aims to increase tourist arrivals from China by 25 per cent this year, positioning the state as a premier tourism and investment destination.

“As Malaysia’s most developed and accessible state, Selangor continues to lead the country’s inbound tourism from China, having recorded 584,566 Chinese tourist arrivals in 2024. Among the top-performing destinations are the Petaling district, with Subang Jaya notably ranking as the most visited location by Chinese travellers,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Ng in a separate statement said Selangor is looking to maintain bilateral cooperation with China’s travel and business players while drawing more investors to the state’s thriving tourism ecosystem.

“Our goal is to attract eight  million tourists and generate RM11.7 billion in tourism receipts this year.

“We are optimistic that through strategic engagements at ITB China and our targeted campaigns, we can achieve a 25 per cent increase in Chinese tourist arrivals for 2025. This is supported by enhanced Shanghai-Kuala Lumpur flight connectivity, with 81 weekly flights operated by China Eastern, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Juneyao and Shanghai Airlines.

“Selangor is ready to collaborate with investors and tourism stakeholders, in line with the First Selangor Plan and the Surprising Selangor global campaign under VSY2025,” he added.

Tourism Selangor’s delegation to ITB China 2025 featured seven leading tourism product operators — Sunway Lagoon, Skyluge, D’King, Farm In The City, Wet World Shah Alam, Eastin Hotel and One World Hotel — that represent various offerings, from hotels and theme parks, to ecotourism and experiential tourism.

The Selangor government is looking to expand collaboration opportunities and enhance its visibility by leveraging over 40 business-to-business meetings with Chinese travel agents, and two key government-to-government sessions with the Malaysian consulate to China and Tourism Malaysia Shanghai.

The state’s tourism authority will also offer FAM trips to Chinese agencies and travel groups, with tailored ground support for potential collaborations.

Selangor, which has seen growing demand for ecotourism, gastronomy, agrotourism, MICE, and investment tourism, is well positioned to cater to evolving visitor preferences and drive inbound growth in China’s competitive market.
