KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — An agreement between Malaysian, Singaporean, and Vietnamese companies will be part of the Asean Power Grid, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah, who is also energy transition and water transformation minister, said the project marks the beginning of a regional collaboration to supply renewable energy from Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore.

“This document exchange marks a new level of cooperation.

“Renewable energy will be supplied from Vietnam, with some going to Malaysia and some to Singapore,” he told reporters after the bilateral meeting on the agreement exchange ceremony of Renewable and Interconnected Sustainable Energy, or RISE.

The event, which saw Malaysia represented by Petronas and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), was held in conjunction with the Asean Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here today,

Meanwhile, Fadillah said the energy will be transmitted via undersea cables developed by Petronas and TNB, forming an important infrastructure component of the regional project.

“This is just the beginning. The next phase will involve more detailed discussions on the technical aspects and the business model,” he said.

The bilateral meeting is aimed at strengthening regional energy security, connectivity and sustainability.

The first phase includes an undersea cable from Vietnam to northern Malaysia.
