SHAH ALAM, May 24 — To resolve workers' accommodation issues, centralised workers’ hostels are set to be built in Kapar, Meru, and Telok Gong, and are expected to be completed within five years.
Klang Deputy Mayor Mohd Zary Affendi Mohd Arif said 213 planning permission applications have been submitted for the construction of temporary labour quarters (TLQ) and 10 centralised labour quarters (CLQ), which have received approval from the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK).
“MBDK aspires to see employers and manufacturers jointly take responsibility for providing comfortable and well-equipped accommodation for workers that aligns with regulations and guidelines.

“The planning and provision of centralised workers’ hostels, complete with facilities following guidelines, will also help to improve and promote a conducive and productive industrial work culture,” he said.
Speaking at the TLQ and CLQ ‘Teach-In’ session yesterday, Zary added that the establishment of these accommodations would eliminate the need for temporary worker housing in shop offices and terrace factories.
“Enforcement action will be taken against any remaining temporary workers’ accommodation still operating in existing shop offices and factories. Employers must relocate their workers to centralised labour hostels.
“At the same time, enforcement efforts will continue against all unapproved temporary worker accommodations, and ongoing action will be taken until all centralised workers’ hostels are completed,” he said.
