KLANG, May 22 — The Selangor government has pledged full transparency in the proposed waste-to-energy (WTE) plant project in Batu Arang amid ongoing public objections.

State executive councillor for tourism and local government Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said they acknowledge the pushback from certain quarters, who have raised concerns by drawing comparisons to another WTE project in Rawang, which faced similar resistance.

“We are listening to everyone’s opinion, and we remain open and respectful to public concerns.

“But that does not mean every objection will automatically be accepted,” he said during a press conference after a working visit to the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) today.

Ng assured that all processes, including environmental impact assessments (EIA), will be carried out thoroughly and transparently to uphold the public’s trust.

“The government will carefully examine all environmental aspects and ensure any development is in line with proper regulations,” he said.

Previously, it was reported that Batu Arang residents were dissatisfied with the result of a recent hearing session on the proposed WTE project in their vicinity.

Many have also expressed concerns over the environmental impact the plant would have on surrounding areas.
