SHAH ALAM, May 21 — Approximately 160,000 students are targeted to benefit from the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) 2025 free of charge starting next month.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said PTRS 2025 focuses on Form Four and Form Five students, particularly those with average or weak academic performance, as well as remedial classes in primary schools, with a RM11 million allocation.
The PTRS 2025 modules will be distributed next week to around 932 schools across Selangor before the programme’s launch next month.
“All of them will receive subject modules next week. As for the physical PTRS classes, we estimate around 10,000 Form Five students will take part,” he told Media Selangor.
On April 24, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said PTRS was identified as one of the key contributors to the increase in the number of students in Selangor who achieved grade A in all subjects of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations this year.
PTRS for Form Four and Form Five students provides supplementary classes in the Malay language, the English language, Mathematics, Science, History, and Additional Mathematics. It targets low-income students with average or weak academic performance.
The primary school-level PTRS focuses on remedial pupils to help them master basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills (the 3Rs).
On August 13 last year, the state government also launched the e-PTRS app, aiming to benefit 200,000 students through the new technology. The introduction of this learning application is one of the enhancements to PTRS, which has existed since 2008.
The 2025 Selangor Budget allocates RM10 million to implement PTRS for Form Four and Form Five students, and RM1 million for literacy and numeracy intervention programmes at the primary school level.
