SHAH ALAM, May 20 — Aircraft repair and overhaul specialist Airfoil Services has officially launched a new facility at its headquarters in Petaling Jaya, becoming the world’s first to offer turbine blade repair capabilities for Rolls-Royce aircraft engines.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the move reflects the growth of Selangor’s aerospace industry.
"This milestone goes beyond technical achievement," he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
"It reflects the strength of Selangor’s aerospace ecosystem, now home to 67 per cent of Malaysia’s aerospace companies and a key driver of our nation’s RM25.1 billion industry revenue in 2024."
Ng said what’s equally significant is the company’s human capital commitment.
Through the Program Iltizam Usaha Insan, Airfoil is investing in the next generation of skilled aerospace talent, aligning perfectly with the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) and the state’s long-term vision for high-tech, high-income industries.
“I think the most direct benefit we can see (is the skilled workforce). (Currently), there are 630 high-skilled employees at this facility, and 90 per cent of them are Malaysians.
"Selangor is proud to support these strides through strategic collaborations to ensure that our aerospace clusters continue to grow, innovate, and lead," he said.

Airfoil Services chief executive officer Michael Bartelt said the company's decision to invest in Malaysia is due to its great potential and capacity.
"We will continue to invest here in Malaysia. This (new facility) is the best evidence of that."
Established in 1991, Airfoil Services specialises in the repair of airfoils for high pressure compressors and low pressure turbines across all major civil aircraft engine types.
