KUALA SELANGOR, May 13 — State executive councillors will discuss the proposal to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes in Selangor, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin has been ordered to present the proposal after a meeting with several agencies.
“I have instructed that a paper be written up and presented to the council for us to consider, as any decision by the state government must be made by looking at all aspects so it can guarantee the health of current and future generations,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the handover of the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme project’s packages A and C here today.
Earlier, Jamaliah in a statement said the meeting with the Menteri Besar’s Office involved the Selangor State Health Department, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, and local authorities.
She said the meeting was called to gain a comprehensive overview of the enforcement, legal and socio-economic aspects related to vape sales.
On April 24, the media reported the Terengganu state government would enforce a sales ban on electronic cigarettes from August 1.
