SHAH ALAM, May 10 — Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman cum Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has announced that he will defend his post as Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice president during its national leadership election for the 2025–2028 term.
He said this aspiration also aligns with the principle of strengthening Keadilan as a leading political party, the axis of Reformasi, and the core of the Unity Government.
"The 2025 Keadilan election presents an opportunity to strengthen and refine the party's leadership line-up ahead of the upcoming general election.
"The main objective of this election is to form a team capable of realising Reformasi's ideals while serving and supporting the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister for a second term," Amirudin said in a statement today.
Citing the campaign theme 'Reformasi Cita Bangsa', he said his vision aligns with the theme 'Bersama Membina Parti Kita' espoused by Keadilan deputy president candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar.
"We seek to invigorate the party machinery and foster unity among Keadilan members while strengthening relations with other component parties of the Unity Government, in preparation for the 16th general election.
"InsyaAllah, during this campaign period, I will elaborate on and present Reformasi Cita Bangsa's vision to all Keadilan members.
"With the utmost humility, I seek the support and backing of all Keadilan members in this struggle," said Amirudin.
He joins 11 others in contending for the four vice-presidential posts, which includes the incumbents like Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang; and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Approximately 251 candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for Keadilan's national leadership election for the 2025–2028 term. They include 104 candidates for the Central Leadership Council (MPP), 85 for the youth wing Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Leadership Council, and 62 for the women’s wing Wanita Keadilan Leadership Council.
