SHAH ALAM, April 17 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, and Yayasan Hijrah Selangor have pledged to help business owners affected by the April 1 Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion.

MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the agency has identified traders who need funds and are registered under Platform Selangor (PLATS), which offers initiatives to help them recover.

“Several traders suffered massive losses. So far, all those affected are from Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru. We are still gathering data … there may be many more to be helped.

“God willing, PLATS has prepared several initiatives to let them revive their businesses. MBI Foundation and Hijrah Selangor will discuss the best way to help them,” Azri told Media Selangor.

He added that MBI Foundation is working to alleviate the burden of those affected by the explosion, including by channelling assistance to repair homes.

“If no other party has come forward with aid but victims need their homes repaired immediately, they can apply (for aid) from the MBI Foundation,” he said.

In the 8.10am incident on April 1, a gas pipeline leak in Putra Heights caused an explosion and sparked an inferno that sent flames 30m into the sky, with temperatures reaching 1,000℃. It took nearly eight hours to extinguish.
