SHAH ALAM, April 15 — Eight out of 16 macro indicator achievements under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which serves as the state's development framework for a five-year period, have been successfully achieved, said the State Economic Planning Unit's director Dato' Johary Anuar.

Among the indicators achieved were gross domestic product (GDP) growth, approved investments in key sectors, employment, and median household income.

“For GDP growth, placed under the first strategic pillar which focuses on economic strengthening, we achieved 8.5 per cent compared to the target of 6.5 to 7.5 per cent. Similarly, in terms of investment, we reached RM101.9 billion, surpassing the set target of between RM23 to RM35 billion.

“However, areas still in implementation include absolute poverty…this programme is ongoing and actively being carried out this year to ensure the target is met.

“In addition, macro indicators that have not yet been achieved will be carried forward to the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2),” he told the press during the RS-2 strategic workshop yesterday.

At the event, Johary said that other macro indicators successfully achieved include 24-hour clean water availability, the recycling rate of waste, the preservation of permanent forest reserve coverage, and residents’ satisfaction with local authority services.

RS-1 was announced in July 2022 during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly with the aim of shaping a resilient and sustainable economy to ensure the people's well-being while also striving to contribute 30 per cent of the national GDP by 2025.

It involves several major projects, including the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) and the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss), and also serves as a plan to address the anticipated global economic slowdown next year.

RS-1's four strategic pillars encompass strengthening the economic and social sectors, driving the sustainability agenda, and improving governance efficiency.

Meanwhile, Johary, who is also the Deputy State Secretary (Development), said that all agencies must contribute to implementing RS-1 for the people's benefit.

“One of the major challenges in implementing RS-1 is ensuring the targets are met, which requires the involvement of all agencies alongside the state government to drive it forward.

“This is why a mid-term review of RS-1 is essential, particularly to focus on district-based development and to ensure that the outlined programmes are properly implemented,” he said.
