Drop in number of flood victims in Johor, Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — The flood situation in Johor and Sabah is showing signs of recovery as the number of flood victims at temporary relief centres (PPS) in both states recorded a decrease this morning.

In Johor, the number of flood victims dropped to 106 people from 34 families as of 8am today compared to 195 victims (60 families) yesterday.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Azmi Rohani said the victims are at three PPS in the Batu Pahat and Segamat districts: SMK Seri Gading in Batu Pahat, and at Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak and Dewan Komuniti Kampung Tasek in Segamat.

The areas affected by the floods in Batu Pahat are Kampung Baharu Sri Gading, Kampung Parit Bengkok, Kampung Parit Kaspan, Kampung Parit Samion, and Kampung Parit Samijan.

"The two villages affected by floods in Segamat are Kampung Seberang Batu Badak and Kampung Batu 5 Jalan Muar,” he said in a statement.

In sabah, the number of flood victims dropped sharply to 471 people from 154 families this morning AT five PPS, compared to 890 people from 259 families yesterday.

According to the State JPBN Secretariat, Nabawan recorded 29 victims from eight families at one PPS, followed by Sook (239 victims, 79 families, two PPS), Beaufort (127 victims, 46 families, one PPS), and Keningau (76 victims, 21 families, one PPS).

“A total of 40 villages were affected by the floods with 30 villages in Nabawan, six villages in Beaufort, and two villages each in Sook and Keningau,” it said.
