SHAH ALAM, April 14 — Selangor is looking to strengthen economic and technology partnerships with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), following a recent meeting between Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and UAE ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri.

Amirudin, in a Facebook post today, said discussions include collaboration opportunities in future-ready sectors.

“I had the honour of receiving a courtesy visit from the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, who has been serving in this role since 2023.

“During our meeting, we discussed potential collaborations between the Selangor government and the UAE in various strategic sectors.

“I also shared Selangor’s key focus areas, which include championing Artificial Intelligence (AI), food security, renewable energy, infrastructure development, and the semiconductor industry,” the post read.

Amirudin said that closer bilateral relations with the UAE will open up new avenues for investment and foster mutually beneficial technology exchanges between both regions.

Selangor and the UAE have cultivated robust economic ties, particularly in renewable energy, logistics, and aerospace sectors.

In April 2024, Selangor’s Worldwide Holdings Bhd (Worldwide Holdings) partnered with UAE’s Masdar to develop one gigawatt of renewable energy projects in the state.

The collaboration for the energy projects development focuses on technologies such as floating solar, ground-mounted solar, rooftop solar, hydro and hybrid systems and aligns with the Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar said Saeed also conveyed his heartfelt sympathy over the recent gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights and extended his well wishes to the victims and their families.

“During the meeting, His Excellency took the opportunity to offer his condolences and heartfelt wishes to the victims and families impacted by the recent gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights,” he said.

On April 1, a gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, caused extensive damage to property and forced the evacuation of nearby residents.
