Light vehicles not braving flood waters at Sri Muda in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM, April 11 — Continuous heavy rain since last night has caused a few areas in Shah Alam, including the main road in front of the HL warehouse in Seksyen 23, Sri Muda, to be flooded.

A survey by Media Selangor at the Sri Muda site showed that only heavy vehicles could pass through the flood waters there, while other vehicles had to turn back.

The chief police of Shah Alam, Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, said his officers were already stationed at the flooded areas at 7 am this morning and that the situation is currently under control, with waters already receding.

“Traffic control remains at the flash flood areas like Taman Sri Muda, Persiaran Budiman, Persiaran Jubli Perak, Persiaran Perusahaan, Seksyen 23, Jalan Mat Raji and Padang Jawa.

“We are also managing traffic at Jalan Mantap, Seksyen 25/129, the Federal Highway (at the KM15.3 motorcycle lane) and also around Seksyen 19,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Iqbal said that for now, the motorcycle lane on the Federal Highway is closed.

He added that his team will continue to monitor the roads and provide the latest reports.

In the meantime, two relief shelters (PPS) have been opened in Petaling district due to the floods in Shah Alam today.

Petaling police chief Huzunul Khaidil Mohammed said the residents of Kampung Bukit Lanchong have been placed at PPS Dewan Kenanga Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) in Seksyen 28.

“PPS Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 16, Shah Alam, on the other hand, has taken in flood victims from Kampung Padang Jawa,” he said.

Both shelters will be in operation for as long as needed, Huzunul added.

Executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi has also confirmed that 60 people from Kampung Padang Jawa, among them 10 children, were caught out by the floods.

Aside from Shah Alam, Klang, Puchong and Hulu Langat have also been hit by flash floods.
