SHAH ALAM, April 10 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, and its strategic partners have channelled RM2 million into the Selangor Prihatin fund to help victims of the gas pipeline explosion on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights.

The cheque was handed to State Treasurer Datuk Haniff Zainal Abidin by MBI group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop.

The mock cheque handover, held during MBI’s Gemilang Aidilfitri event, was witnessed by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Meanwhile, MBI Foundation chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor urged those wanting to contribute to disaster relief efforts for victims of the incident to do so via the Selangor Prihatin fund.

He said this was to ensure the state government may best coordinate financial aid.

“The state government has activated accounts that are opened during floods, so those who want to contribute monetarily are encouraged to use the (Selangor Prihatin) fund so aid can be coordinated well by the state government,” he added.

Previously, the state administration had welcomed donations by all parties, be they private, corporate, or individual, for victims of the explosion via the Selangor Prihatin fund.

The fund is on top of existing efforts to alleviate victims’ burden.

Contributions can be made to the CIMB 8604747531 (Bendahari Negeri Selangor) account, with the reference “Putra Heights”.

Yesterday, Amirudin said state executive councillors, including senior officials, will each donate RM1,000 to the Selangor Prihatin fund to help those affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion.

He said assemblymen, including the opposition bench, would each donate RM200, while each local councillor would donate RM100.

Civil administrative officers of Grade 48 and above will give RM50 each.
