SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The temporary relief centre (PPS) at the Subang Jaya City Council's Dewan Serbaguna Camelia in Putra Heights will officially close at 10pm tonight.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the PPS at Masjid Putra Heights is expected to be closed by this weekend or by Monday (April 14) at the latest.

“Currently, Dewan Camelia is housing 17 families, while the mosque is accommodating 87 families. Given these numbers, we can begin the closure process as early as the end of this week.

“The closure of the PPS follows the authorities' approval for residents to return home and the disbursement of rental assistance to all victims.

“Those allowed to return have also received food baskets from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council, which are expected to last for three weeks to a month,” he said during a special press conference today.

Amirudin added that 270 homes have so far been confirmed as safe and habitable and are eligible for minor repairs.

“Electricity and water supplies are being restored to these homes, and owners with minor damages are allowed to carry out immediate repairs to ensure safety and comfort.

“Houses with minimal issues can start repairs without waiting for government contractors… and a standard aid package will be proposed by the recovery committee,” he said.

The Petronas gas pipeline fire that broke out around 8.10am on April 1 sent flames more than 30 metres into the sky, with temperatures soaring to 1,000°C. It took nearly eight hours for the blaze to be fully extinguished.

The incident left 81 houses completely destroyed with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent, another 81 houses partially destroyed, 57 damaged but not burned, and 218 houses unaffected.
