SHAH ALAM, April 4 — 464 students from higher education institutions (IPT) across the country are being sent back to their campuses in stages over two days starting today.

This initiative, carried out under the Bas Percuma Mahasiswa Pulang Kampus programme, is supported by a RM60,000 allocation to assist parents who face challenges in sending their children back, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

“Some parents may face constraints in terms of cost and time to send their children back to university, especially as many institutions on the East Coast begin classes on Sunday.

“In 2022, we organised transport for students returning to campus during the Covid-19 pandemic and the general election. This time, we are easing their journey back to university,” he said.

Speaking to the press after officiating the flag-off ceremony today, Amirudin added that the programme will be expanded in the future to ensure more students from Selangor benefit from it.

“We may consider offering subsidies or reduced bus fares depending on the situation and our financial capacity,” he said.

13 buses have been arranged for the programme, with six departing for the East Coast today, and the remaining seven heading to the northern and southern regions tomorrow.

Among the institutions involved are Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Teknologi Mara Machang, Institut Perguruan Sultan Mizan, Politeknik Hulu Terengganu, and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.
