SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has warned the public not to approach the site where a blaze erupted near the Putra Heights Petronas fuel station in Subang Jaya.
In a statement today, he asked people to give space for Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel to control the fire, perform search and rescue, and declare the area safe.
“This morning, the JBPM received an emergency call about a fire near the fuel station. Seventy-eight first responders have been fighting the blaze since 8.10am.
“The inferno was said to have erupted due to a leak along the gas pipeline, and Petronas has shut valves near the leak. However, the blaze is still raging due to remaining gas in the pipeline.
“Search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing, and as at 11am, JBPM personnel have evacuated seven victims, including two senior citizens,” he added.

Amirudin also said the State Disaster Management Unit has opened a temporary relief centre at the Putra Heights Mosque to house evacuees, with Selangor State Health Department staff at the ready to treat victims at nearby hospitals.
“The priority now is to control the fire and rescue victims. I pray that God protects all safety and government agency personnel on duty in this challenging situation,” he said.
The Menteri Besar will visit victims at the relief centre later today.
Earlier today, the Selangor JBPM said a massive fire broke out due to a gas leak at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, involving a 500m stretch of the pipeline.
Petronas confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation has been opened.
Following the incident, Kota Kemuning assemblyman S. Preakas posted on Facebook that Al-Falah Mosque in USJ 9 and Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple in Subang Jaya are open to those seeking shelter from the fire.

Meanwhile, a Bernama report said that at 10.35am, 25 victims were receiving first aid at Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple.
A check by Bernama at the scene found Health Ministry personnel attending to victims, who suffered wounds, burns, and breathing difficulties.
It is understood that five victims have been transferred to Serdang Hospital for further treatment.
