SHAH ALAM, March 28 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) upholds the decree of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who reminded Muslims in the state to adhere to Islamic teachings based on the principles of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
Its chairman Dato' Salehuddin Saidin said that Mais and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) will continue to strengthen educational and missionary programmes to ensure that the understanding of Islam according to this school of thought is practised by all Muslims.
“Mais will also ensure that all policies and regulations related to Islamic affairs in Selangor are continuously improved.
“Strengthening the position of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah will be carried out through legal amendments as well as administrative measures,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Salehuddin added that Mais also takes the Sultan’s decree regarding the threat of deviant teachings seriously, as such ideologies can damage faith and cause divisions among Muslims.
“The close cooperation between Mais, Jais, the police, and other authorities will be further enhanced.
“Regular enforcement reports will be presented through the Mais committee to ensure that actions against deviant teachings are effectively implemented,” he said.
On Wednesday (March 25), His Royal Highness reminded Muslims, especially in Selangor, to always strengthen their faith and beliefs to prevent themselves from being easily influenced by teachings or ideologies that contradict Islamic principles.
Sultan Sharafuddin decreed that any deviation from the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah school of thought must be prevented, as it could create confusion among Muslims and lead to division.
The Ruler also called for continuous monitoring to curb deviant teachings, particularly among groups that have faced legal action.
