SHAH ALAM, March 26 — The Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant (Top ECM) Livestream Battle, organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) in collaboration with TikTok Shop Malaysia, successfully generated RM2 million in gross merchandise value (GMV), with livestream sales accounting for 30 per cent of the total.

The competition aimed to celebrate the transformative power of livestream commerce, support local small and medium enterprises (SME), and strengthen Malaysia’s digital economy.

It took place during the Havoc Raya Fest 2025 from March 21 to March 25 at the Setia City Convention Centre, recording 320,000 views and highlighting the power of live streaming in driving digital commerce growth.

“Sidec is proud to spearhead the digital transformation of SMEs in Malaysia through initiatives like the Top ECM Livestream Battle.

“These efforts are crucial in nurturing the next generation of digital entrepreneurs and positioning Malaysia as a leader in the e-commerce sector,” said its chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.

This year’s Top ECM Livestream Battle, which included Malaysia’s top e-commerce sellers, engaged in a continuous 72-hour live-selling marathon.

Over five days, 40 merchants participated in 46 live stream sessions, accumulating 132 hours of live selling.

Merchants were judged based on key performance indicators, including total sales, viewer count, and engagement levels.

This rigorous selection process ensured that only the most innovative and impactful sellers advanced in the competition.

State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, Sidec chief operating officer Loo Chuan Boon, and TikTok Shop Malaysia’s strategic partnership director Nur Azre Abdul Aziz were also there for the closing ceremony and handover of tokens of appreciation.

“TikTok Shop Malaysia, which has trained over 1,000 local micro, small, and medium enterprises via collaboration with Sidec since July 2024, played a pivotal role in the competition.

“Through this collaboration with Sidec, we aim to equip sellers with the skills needed to leverage live streaming for real business growth,” said Azre.

The Top ECM Awards 2025 has attracted 1,060 applications from merchants across industries, including fashion and accessories, beauty, food and beverages, home living, home appliances, and baby and toys.

A total of 511 participants were shortlisted and underwent five advanced training sessions on topics such as data analytics, livestream optimisation, and creator training.

Selected participants also had the chance to visit Dattel Asia for industry insights. The awards feature a RM250,000 prize pool distributed across four categories, with 24 winners receiving cash prizes, trophies, and certificates.

The Top ECM Awards highlight innovation in e-commerce, digital entrepreneurship, and live commerce, providing winners with financial rewards and valuable industry recognition.
