SHAH ALAM, March 26 — The Selangor government is studying a proposal to expand the Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) service statewide this year.

State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said his office is assessing a proposal paper submitted by industry players, and that 14 companies joined the request for proposal (RFP).

“There is a possibility the state will widen the DRT service to more areas and buildings due to high demand. These 14 companies attended a briefing session and bought the (RFP) forms on March 14.

“The appointment and selection process won’t take long. It will be done two weeks after RFP applications close on April 7,” he told Media Selangor.

Ng added that the state government is set to table an early implementation plan for the DRT service in May.

Previously, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, invited companies eligible to and interested in joining the RFP for the DRT implementation, which began March 12.

The DRT encompasses a public transport system that adapts its routes and schedules based on passenger demand and provides a more flexible, efficient choice for commuters, especially in first- and last-mile connectivity.

The Selangor government launched a trial DRT project from November 21, 2023, to July 31, 2024, in eight zones under several local authorities.
